Kombawa! (good evening in Japanese)

Thank you for all who showed up for our 1st annual Welcome Back BBQ. Last week we had 13 people out for our BBQ. It was a fun evening full of free burgers, Greek salad, football, conversations and trampoline craziness! Only cows and vegetables were harmed in the making of this BBQ, thank you to their sacrifice.

We hope people are ready for a week of fun, excitement and refuge from homework! This week we have two events to blow us away.

Ben Machnee
5;00 pm, Tuesday Sept 25 At Group Space

Ben will be speaking on CS Lewis and the Deification of Man, the man who brought us Narnia, Scretape Letters, and the Mere Christianity also was quite a devoted Christian and theologian. His theology is often glossed over in the weight of his more popular novels. However he will be considered one of the most evident theologians of our century. This will be an interesting talk on CS Lewis and discussion on his views.

To reach the group space turn right at the bottom of the ramp leading to the bookstore from place riel. Turn right down the tunnel, you will pass on set of doors in the white part of the tunnel on either side of it, keep on going. You will come to a small flight of stairs with a tunnel to the right(don't go down the tunnel), go up it, through the doorway and to your direct right is the group space. Look for signs to point you in the right direction.

Akathist Glory to God for All Things
5;00 pm, Wednesday Sept 26 At Sheptynsky Institute Chapel

OCF feels it is our duty to provide services on campus to be accessible to those whop need it. Most times confession will be provided. This a great time to join a few members of the campus community in unity of prayer. This is an amazing service finding God in the most harsh circumstances. It teaches us to find God in the beauty in creation no matter what walk of life we come from. We hope you come out to this event

To get to Sheps, go out of place riel and bus terminal walk down the road past the observatory and dentistry college. You will come to the intersection of wiggins and college. It is a 4 story brick building. There should be a sandwich board directing you to the chapel outside. To get there go to the back alley and go down right, you will see a brick steps up behind the shed at the far rear of the building. Go up those steps and the door at the top is the chapel.

Next Week we will have our monthly social event

Subdeacon James Davis speaking on Prayer on Oct 9
Announcing Annual NOV 11 Retreat

Glory to Jesus Christ!

The annual Pan-Orthodox College and Career and OCF Retreat for Western Canada is on again this year November 9-12, 2007. We've had some excellent retreats in the past, with speakers such as Father John Hainsworth and Father Michael Gillis. This year will be amazing as well. We hope you will be able to join us for this enriching time of spiritual renewal, learning and fellowship.

We've got an incredible new location this year. After some great years at St. John's Institute, we're escaping the hectic pace of city life, heading out to picturesque Camp Maskepetoon on the scenic shores of Pigeon Lake, just 45 minutes south of Edmonton. The price is tentatively 65$ (could be 60-80$) which will include room and board! There will be car pooling organized so if you can offer your car that would be wonderful. Usually traveling costs at most $20 plus spending money. There will be 2 scholarships of 15$ given this year to Saskatoon OCF people. Preference will go as follows, first years then those of financial need. If more need is determined we will have more scholarships. To apply, email us with a brief reason why you want to go. Please email by Oct 20th.

Matthew Gallatin is the speaker for the retreat, and will be addressing the theme of "The Significance of Holy Tradition Today."

He is the author of the well-known book Thirsting for God in a Land of Shallow Wells (Conciliar Press, © 2002). Audiences around the country have heard him share the story of his journey from evangelical Protestantism into Eastern Orthodoxy. He has presented retreats and seminars on topics ranging from evangelism, to liturgical music and iconography, to life in the Spirit, to discerning the will of God in one's life.

Gallatin taught philosophy at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He resides in Post Falls, Idaho, with his wife Alice, daughter Kaci, and grandson Zachary. Son Joshua, his wife Tiffani, and their son William, live in nearby Coeur d'Alene. All the Gallatins are active members of St. John the Baptist Antiochian Orthodox Church in Post Falls, Idaho, USA.

We hope you can join us for this amazing Young Adult Retreat!

see you this week!
