Next week

TUESDAY Sept 25: We will be opening our tuesday OCF meetings with some brief prayer and guest speaker Ben Machnee talking about "CS Lewis: The Deification of Man". (deification is defined as becoming godlike (small g) )
Ben Machnee is a man of no reputation, or so he would like you to believe. Ben is an avid lecturer who has lectured at various forums and retreats. A former pastor in Swift Current, Ben now is a laymen in St Vincent Antiochian Orthodox Church, Saskatoon. A carpenter by trade, he designs anything from a cabinets to Iconostasis to coffins. He is a talented speaker who keeps audiences
on their feet. Known for his youthful heart and football games, you will be engaged by his style.
When: 5:00 pm
Where: Group Space (directions will come again next newsletter)
Refreshments will be served
WEDNESDAY sept 26: Akathist "Glory to God for All Things" (or akathist of thanksgiving). This will happen at Sheptysky institute in conjunction with Sheptysky Byzantine Catholic Ministry. There will be a sandwich board to direct people to the chapel. Akathists literally mean "standing prayers" but are religious poetry written about saints, the Theotokos or God. This paticular Akathist was written by
Protopresbyter Gregory Petrov shortly before his death in a soviet prison camp in 1940 for being a Christian. The title is from the words of Saint John Chrysostom as he was dying in exile. It is a song of praise from amidst the most terrible sufferings. This is my most favorite Akathist of all times.
